Certified supply chain
A certified supply chain
Arborea follows every stage of the supply chain with dedication, combining tradition and innovation to guarantee genuine and safe products. The quality of our milk is the result of this daily commitment, because for us, quality isn’t just a choice, but a value to be cultivated drop by drop.
This is why we have chosen to pursue a certified supply chain , a path that guarantees transparency and an effective traceability system, protecting the quality of our milk and consumer trust.
Farm
Animal welfare is at the heart of sustainable, high-quality production. Happy, well-cared-for cows live better and produce richer, more nutritious milk.
For this reason, Latte Arborea collaborates only with Sardinian farmers who follow rigorous protocols, ensuring their cows—primarily Friesian breeds, known for their high productivity—enjoy the best living conditions. Their diet is healthy and carefully monitored, with high-quality forage and feed, often locally produced, to ensure authentic and nutritious milk.
The combination of company structures, management, and biosecurity standards adopted have allowed Latte Arborea to achieve Animal Welfare certification.
Milking and Harvesting
At the 146 farms associated with Latte Arborea Società Benefit, the milk is milked twice a day using automatic systems that guarantee hygiene and quality. After milking, it is immediately cooled to 4°C and stored in refrigerated tanks to maintain freshness and prevent bacterial growth.

The milk is then transported in isothermal tanks to the collection centres or directly to one of the three plants in Arborea, San Gavino and Roverè della Luna .
Before being processed, it undergoes rigorous quality controls to verify its fat and protein content, the absence of antibiotic residues or unwanted substances, and the total bacterial count. Only milk that passes these controls is accepted for processing.
Arborea milk, whether fresh or shelf-stable, undergoes specific heat treatments that guarantee the safety and quality of the finished product. Fresh pasteurized milk is heated to 71.2°C for 15 seconds and rapidly cooled, while fresh ESL milk is treated at 90°C for 30-60 seconds. Shelf-stable milk is finally sterilized at over 135°C to eliminate bacteria and spores.

Learn more about pasteurizationHomogenization
After pasteurization, the milk is homogenized to prevent fat separation, ensuring a product with a full-bodied flavor that remains stable over time.
Packaging
Milk is packaged in sterile containers, such as Tetra Paks or plastic bottles, which preserve its freshness and nutritional properties. Each package is then labeled with precise information, including the expiration date, production batch, and milk origin, ensuring transparency for the consumer.

Before reaching the consumer, Arborea milk undergoes further checks to ensure it meets all the safety and quality standards required by law and the cooperative’s internal protocols. It is then distributed throughout Italy, to supermarkets and retail stores, through an efficient and increasingly sustainable logistics network.
INSIGHT: 0 km transformation
Arborea milk is processed 83% locally, thanks to the concentration of local farms in the Arborea area. The remaining 17% comes from the Sassari area and other areas of Sardinia. In Arborea, the milk is processed just steps from the farms, with facilities powered by 5,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels, ensuring continuous production, even 24 hours a day.
